In this short video, I explore the terrain at Soviet "ground zero" on the Semipalatinsk Test Site in Kazakhstan. Like the Trinity site in the United States, this place is covered in lumps of radioactive fused soil, known locally as "Kharitonchiki". Unlike Trinity, this site experienced multiple nuclear tests over the years, making it hard to learn about any particular test from the radiation signatures remaining in the fused materials present.
