The first Mayor of Chicago was William Butler Ogden who served a 10 month term between 1837 and 1838. He became Mayor during a financial crisis which would slow the progress of our newly incorporated city. Beyond serving as the Mayor of Chicago, he was an avid business man and nature enthusiast.
