In such an interconnected world, it is no surprise that moral relativism is held in high regard. In this talk, Vanessa Smiley presents an opinion that runs contrary to the 21st century value of moral relativism. Smiley argues that although people should exercise tolerance towards different cultural and moral views, there are dangers and hypocrisies of moral and cultural relativism, and in terms of the legal code, certain cultures are superior to others in a legal context.

Vanessa Smiley is a sophomore at the Singapore American School. As someone who has grown up going to international schools, Smiley has had the opportunity to gain insight into different cultures around the world. Constantly questioning things around her, Smiley enjoys studying psychology and philosophy in her free time. Aside from psychology and philosophy, Vanessa likes reading books about Area 51 and running.
