They are Jewish, they live in Germany, and as grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, they belong to what’s called the "Third Generation": mezzo-soprano Shai Terry, writer Dmitrij Kapitelman, Hetty Berg, director of the Jewish Museum Berlin, and Deborah Feldman, author of the bestseller "Unorthodox". The memoir about Feldman’s childhood and youth in a strict Hasidic community in New York was the inspiration for the internationally successful Netflix series of the same name. On DW's panel discussion on "Jewish Life in Germany. The Third Generation on the Move", these four artists, authors, and intellectuals speak about identity and belonging. The event at the Jewish Museum Berlin was aimed at discussing the future of Judaism rather than the past, and was part of official celebrations marking 1,700 years of Jewish life in Germany.
