Hyundai has entered the small pickup segment with its all-new 2022 Santa Cruz. This is a compact truck that aims to shake up a segment occupied by... no one at the moment! And Hyundai is starting off strong because the Santa Cruz has some great specs for those needing a vehicle that blurs the line between crossover and pickup truck.
The base engine is a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder making just over 190 horsepower and more than 180 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an 8-speed automatic. The more enticing option is the 2.5-liter turbo four, which cranks out around 280 hp and over 310 lb-ft of torque. That engine is linked to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and both engines can be had with the optional HTRAC all-wheel-drive system.
This is still a truck-like thing even if it’s not a full-on truck, so owners will likely want to do truck stuff with it. And it can do that to a degree. The smaller engine can tow 3,500 lbs while the turbo AWD Santa Cruz can handle 5,000 lbs.
