Jim’s wife noticed snoring and long periods of silence followed by gasps. He participated in a sleep study and found out that he has severe obstructive sleep apnea — a common sleep condition that restricts the airway during sleep. To help him sleep better, Jim uses a CPAP machine, which provides mild air pressure to keep his airway open during sleep.
