In today’s video I am planting two beautiful new vines.

First is a Tracelospermum Jasminoides, commonly known as ‘Star Jasmine’. This has very fragrant white flowers, borne in mid Summer, backed by the dark, shiny leaves of this slow-growing evergreen climber. It’s ideal for a sheltered, sunny wall in well-drained, fertile soil. Height and spread in 10 years is 20m x 2.5m (70ft x 8ft).

Secondly, I have a Solanum Crispum ‘Glasnevin’, commonly known as the ‘Chilean Potato Tree’. This has rich purple-blue, orange-centred flowers from mid Summer to mid Autumn. It’s a vigorous scrambler with oval, mid green foliage. Suitable for south or west-facing, sunny sheltered spots, on well-drained soils. Height and spread in 10 years is 6m x 6m (20ft x 20ft). Prune in early spring as needed.

Both these climbing vines have been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because they have proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and good performing plants. For more information on RHS Award of Garden Merit plants, visit:
