Barns across Minnesota continue to vanish. The Skone barn was built in 1894, by Swedish immigrants in Carver County, Minnesota. The frame barn with a stone basement was described as one of the best barns in the county. Using stone for the lower portion of the barn was fairly unique. The stone was likely from the Louisville Quarry, which was operated by the Henry H. Spencer family, just across the Minnesota River, in Scott County. Charles Skone was the builder of the barn. However, he only lived on the farmstead for four years, until 1898, before moving to Seattle, Washington. The barn continues to stand today as a testament to the preservation and restoration efforts of the current owner.
