It is a best time (maybe) for eternity that Timo Bernhard burned into the asphalt of the Nordschleife on June 29, 2018: the clock stopped at 5: 19.55, putting Stefan Bellof's previous record by just under Undercut by 50 seconds. BUT: it was a lap with a specially built car, an evolutionary stage of the Porsche 919 Hybrid, the car that already caused a sensation at Le Mans. Stefan Bellof drove the 6:11 in a Porsche 956 to a sports car race during normal training.
The fascination of the 919 lap is perhaps that the limit here set the driver's ability to react, or more precisely: that the interaction between man and machine was pushed to the maximum.
