Ford Performance made fans of the legendary American sports car salivate by revealing the 2025 Mustang GTD, a limited-edition “race car for the road” inspired by and based on the Mustang GT3 competition car that will debut at the 2024 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Ford is targeting a sub-seven-minute lap time at the NĂĽrburgring, a feat that would put the GTD on a par with European supercars including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, and Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.
The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD utilizes a purpose-developed supercharged 5.2-liter V8, with dual air inlets and the first dry-sump engine oil system.
The engine's power will reach more than 800 hp, and the engine's redline exceeds 7,500 rpm, according to Ford.
All of that power is sent from the engine to the rear wheels through a carbon fiber driveshaft connected to an 8-speed dual-clutch rear transaxle gearbox for near 50/50 weight distribution between the front and rear.
Production of Mustang GTD will be limited (maybe 1,000 units), and pricing is expected to begin at approximately $300,000 MSRP.
Mustang GTD will be available in late 2024, or early 2025.
