@KyleConner recently visited San Luis Obispo, California while traveling in a CCS EV, and he was concerned with the disparity in DC fast charging options between Tesla's Superchargers and the public providers. I personally have a long history with charging in San Luis Obispo, and in fact, the EVgo charger that Kyle featured on his video was the first public DC fast charger that I used in my Chevy Bolt EV over six years ago as I headed out an 1,100+ mile trip.

Check out Kyle's video here:    • This Town Has 54 Tesla Superchargers ...

While I agree with Kyle overall, I wanted to push back on a concept that he promoted in his video: We need 40 to 50 charger sites. This seems to be a common misconception among many members of the EV community at this time, and it is largely driven by people who want to copy Tesla's Supercharger strategy and site designs. However, that position misses a lot of the nuance and reasons behind why Tesla designs their Superchargers the way that they do, and it also creates an impossible barrier for others to catch up to Tesla, at least on paper, while simultaneously disregarding charging providers and sites that might be every bit as effective at supporting EV travel.
