Chardi Kala is a shabad compilation of a Pauri authored by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, ending with a verse authored by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Chardi Kala, the expression is a blessing to be an unwilting spirit. It is a simple hummable, a very happy, bright and upbeat composition, sung and composed by India’s pan genre celebrated artist, song writer, performer, composer Daler Mehndi.

This shabad is a prayer, a reminder to one’s ownself to constantly engage and tap into gratitude for all that we have. It is an acknowledgment, that the only courage one needs is that of Trust and leaning on the Supreme Super Power, the One Force, and the DIVINITY within, the positive unwilting spirit that each one is born with.

Just as Guru Arjan Dev Ji paved the path of courage, resilience, trust and surrender to the DIVINE, in the face of adversity, in trust of the DIVINE Plan, the shabad reminds each seeker to amplify their Trust with positive attitude and unwavering approach.

From the Artist, “This Shabad is the true embodiment of Chardi Kala to my consciousness. It is this shabad that held me in my darkest and most difficult times.”

In Daler Mehndi’s words:
“I was asked by a motherly figure ( Mrs. Dimple Anil) to sing Chardi Kala & make a song on it. In order to honor her desire, I went and composed Chardi Kala but every time I went to write the song, the only words that came to me were those that held me in my toughest time which was the shabad ‘Jaa Too Mere Val Hai Ta Kya Mohchhanda’ (means “ Why should I worry when I have YOU”) .
Nothing embodies Chardi Kala better than Guru Patshah Ji’s Bani. To me Chardi Kala is Guru Sahab’s this Shabad.

It is a simple hummable tune, that is easy to sing along. I asked my wife Taran Mehndi to sing the backing vocals. You can hear her in the Shabad.
I pray that the way Guru Maharaj held me in our toughest time, you and your families always remain in Chardi Kala and lean on your Divinity at all times".

ਜਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੈ ਵਲਿ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹਛੰਦਾ ॥
jaa too merai val hai taa kiaa muhachha(n)dhaa ||
When You are on my side, Lord, what do I need to worry about?

ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੈਨੋ ਸਉਪਿਆ ਜਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ॥
tudh sabh kichh maino saupiaa jaa teraa ba(n)dhaa ||
You entrusted everything to me, when I trusted & surrendered to You.

ਲਖਮੀ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਖਾਇ ਖਰਚਿ ਰਹੰਦਾ ॥
lakhamee toT na aaviee khai kharach raha(n)dhaa ||
My wealth is inexhaustible, no matter how much I spend and consume.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਸਭ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੰਦਾ ॥
lakh chauraaseeh medhanee sabh sev kara(n)dhaa ||
The 8.4 million species of beings all work to serve me.

ਏਹ ਵੈਰੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਨਹ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
eh vairee mitr sabh keetiaa neh ma(n)geh ma(n)dhaa ||
All these enemies have become my friends, and no one wishes me ill.

ਲੇਖਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪੁਛਈ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਖਸੰਦਾ ॥
lekhaa koi na puchhiee jaa har bakhasa(n)dhaa ||
No one calls me to account, since God is my forgiver.

ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ॥
ana(n)dh bhiaa sukh paiaa mil gur govi(n)dhaa ||
I have become blissful, and I have found peace, meeting with the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.

ਸਭੇ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਿਐ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੰਦਾ ॥੭॥
sabhe kaaj savaariaai jaa tudh bhaava(n)dhaa ||7||
All my affairs have been resolved, since You are pleased with me. ||7||
