The Cadillac XT6 delivers plenty of content for a competitive starting price. But if it really wants to wow shoppers, Cadillac should make its new 3-row crossover even more expensive.

The Cadillac XT6 aims to win shoppers in the market for a 3-row luxury crossover, but who aren’t interested in the larger-than-life presence of the Cadillac Escalade. While many cars in this class squeeze in a third row that barely would barely fit Tom Cruise and Al Pacino, the rear seat of the XT6 is large enough for bigger adults—say, the size of Robert Downey, Jr. or Woody Harrelson.

And while the 3.6-liter V6 engine and 9-speed automatic transmission are enough to smoothly draw the XT6 away from a stoplight, 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque don’t look particularly compelling next to the vehicle’s competitors. Fuel economy looks standard for a car this size, with the EPA rating all-wheel-drive XT6s at 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 20 combined.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both offered as standard equipment. Cadillac also offers an e-commerce app that lets drivers order from Domino’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Applebee’s, and other chain restaurants. Sadly, the relatively small infotainment screen didn’t impress us, nor did the Bose stereo system.

Pricing starts at $52,695, and our test car cost $70,890. These are competitive prices in the luxury 3-row crossover segment, but Cadillac may see more success with an even more expensive, better-equipped XT6.
