It’s a controversial topic in New England: is it okay to burn pine firewood in a wood stove or fireplace? I used to be in the boat of “no, you can’t, or at least shouldn’t, burn pine.” But after traveling out west, to Montana, and seeing that softwoods like pine is all they burn in wood stoves there, I realized it’s kind of silly that us Yankees refuse to burn it. I slowly worked Eastern White Pine into my wood pile about 6 years ago and now it makes up 25 to 30% of my firewood.
