In 2004 the world was introduced to the 'fishapod', Tiktaalik - a transitional animal with features of both fish and land creatures. Found at about the same time was Qikiqtania - a cousin of Tiktaalik but with anatomy that suggested only a tentative flirtation with the land.

THOMAS STEWART is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Pennsylvania State University who was one of the first biologists to study these amazing creatures and present them to the world.
