I am growing a Moro Blood Orange citrus tree in Zone 8A on the southeastern North Carolina coast where we have hot summers and mild winters, but are prone to brief extreme cold outbreaks from Arctic blasts. Blood Oranges require a minimum Zone 9 climate to survive, so my blood orange tree is grown in a self-watering container and I carry it in when nights drop into the 20's Fahrenheit (below -1.5 degrees C).

The tree featured in this video is a Moro Blood Orange I purchased from Stan McKenzie at McKenzie Farms in South Carolina in June 2018. In this video, I taste test the first fruit I have ever harvested off this tree.

Blood oranges are a very unique citrus. They have a burgundy interior and have a very unique flavor, so they're a must-have if you enjoy citrus. However, I've found this tree to be temperamental, and it does not like changes in scenery. Bringing it into the garage or indoors for more than a day or two causes defoliation. In this video, I discuss tips and tricks for caring for your citrus, as well as a taste test.
