In 1951, Wolf Creek Dam was created in order to combat flooding from the Cumberland River. With the creation of Wolf Creek Dam came one of Kentucky’s most popular recreational activities, Lake Cumberland. In the wake of Lake Cumberland’s creation, the city of Burnside, once located along the Cumberland River, was forced to relocate while the old town was flooded. Some residents moved “up on the hill” above the old town, but many others moved to other parts of the state. In our next story, we talk with some of the former residents of “Old Burnside” and revisit some memories from Kentucky Life’s past to learn about life in Burnside before Lake Cumberland…
