What if I told you that who you are is not defined by what you do? The path to finding our identity is a long and often winding road, but the drive to find it is hardwired into each of us. We try to fit in with this group or that one, trying each one on for size, and it seems each group is formed around what they do together. Whichever group we find ourselves in, we begin adopting their code. Our language, clothing and habits begin to conform to the group norms, and our so-called identity starts forming. The fundamental problem with this is that our identity is being formed by individuals who are still looking for identity themselves. I want to find happiness, and everyone says if I want to be happy, I need to know who I am. We begin a journey towards identity beginning with the reason to pursue happiness. So, we start a list: get a good career, make lots of money, travel around the world, get married. When we follow the normal path starting with our pursuit of happiness, we let what we do – and ultimately our life circumstances – define our identity! But when we do things God’s way, we let him define who we are, trusting in him, pursuing him, seeking him, then he sets our identity grounding us firmly in who we were created to be. Then we find our life taking shape from this place of center rather than it trying to define what center should be. Embracing who God says we are leaves us free to be who we were created to be, leading us to the true place of success, fulfillment, joy and satisfaction.

Psalm 139 - “You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You now every step I will take before my journey even begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me.”
