Governor Chris Sununu is considering a run for president in 2024, but the truth is, he’s most comfortable back at home in New Hampshire, talking politics over burgers and beers. LX News’ Political Editor Noah Pransky was more than happy to oblige.

Sununu, a free-market small-government Republican who has won four straight elections in a left-leaning state, says his party is going down the wrong path with its focus on culture wars. “Culture wars are not solved by the government,” he said, specifically calling out Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for what he called government’s heavy hand on private issues.

Sununu also told Pransky that “climate change is real,” but he doesn’t want to see a major upheaval of America’s energy industry, instead preferring more gradual reforms driven by the private sector.

He called Democratic & Republican plans for protecting a soon-to-be-insolvent Social Security system equally “ludicrous,” but did not offer an alternative other than saying the elephant in the room needs to be addressed. When prompted about controversial calls to possibly privatize the program, Sununu said “I'm not saying it has to be done that way, but that's an idea that's out there.”

And did Sununu just say ChatGPT came up with a better presidential campaign slogan than our political “expert?”
