Campi Flegrei Supervolcano: Something very strange is happening with volcanic seismicity in Italy
Ground uplift and rising gases could be caused by increased pressurization of the deep hydrothermal system and seismic swarms. The subsurface injection of magma is an additional possibility. Underneath the Phlegraean Fields is a deeper, more expansive magma chamber that is connected to both phenomena. To keep an eye on this activity, INGV keeps measuring geochemical and continuous data from fumaroles and wells.
