The Tesla Roadster, the original Tesla, has so much history. This car should not have been possible, but somehow Elon Musk pulled it off. The Roadster eventually led to the Tesla Model S and Model X, which was ultimately followed up by the Model 3 and Model Y.

So many times in Tesla history Elon Musk defied the odds and avoided bankruptcy with tenacity and dedication. The Tesla Roadster was somewhat of a "proof of concept" in regards to Electric Cars. EV's had not made their mainstream impact at the time, and Tesla as a company was so small, even a strong wind could have tumbled the house of cards.

But it was not to fail, and the Tesla Roadster would ultimately become a collectors item. Although we know a refresh Tesla Roadster, which has already been shown to the public, is on the way, the timing continues to slip and Roadster 2.0 seems to be far away.

For now, we have the original Tesla Roadsters, about 2k of them in the whole world. When something goes wrong, it's not as simple as visiting your local parts store, most of the parts on the Roadster are such limited production that you can't even get parts anymore.

In fact, there are now companies, like Gruber Motors, that acquires wrecked and totaled Roadsters to take apart and restore as many of the components as possible to save for a future need. Even Tesla has been procuring Tesla Roadsters and dismantling them in house to stock on parts.

Until the Tesla Roadster 2.0 becomes a reality, companies like Gruber Motors invest significant time and effort in keeping these treasures on the road.
