Up until the 1950s and 60s the majority of these famous ships were in fact Ocean Liners, going from point A to point B, as a means of transportation; later on, as the aviation industry cut into their business, and they were in financial danger, they evolved into travelling for leisure. Some of the existing ships converted, and the cruising mentality developed.
