IRMAA (Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount) is the Medicare tax for higher income retirees. Higher income = $97,000+ for a single and $194,000+ for married filing jointly. 2023 IRMAA assessment uses your 2021 tax return; always 2 years in arrears. If you retired, lost your job, reduced your hours………since 2021, IRMAA can be appealed. Medicare beneficiaries in the highest income bracket pay as much as $7800/annually just for Medicare. Once you’re paying this much for Medicare, go with Original Medicare and purchase a Medicare supplement policy.
