Peru is caught up in a wave of environmental conflicts as extractive industries take over land that is considered traditional Indigenous territory. Recent opposition to logging and mining activities across the country resulted in the death of numerous Indigenous activists and environmental defenders.

Among the brave fighting for the livelihoods of Indigenous communities is Tania Pariona Tarqui, a young Quechua activist from the Ayacucho region. Tania receives support and guidance from the internationally respected Quechua female leader Tarcila Rivera Zea. Together, they give a voice to Indigenous issues on a national and global level.
