In this After Effects tutorial I'll show you to do the exploding head effect and then regrow your actor's head back to normal. This idea came to me after watching Men in Black (1997) with Will Smith & Tommy Lee Jones. This is a little more advanced than my previous tutorials so if you haven't seen the BIG HEAD effect tutorial definitely check that one out before hand. It will give you some tips & tricks that will be helpful for this exploding head effect. For this tutorial, I show you the layering I did and a quick run through of the process. There are a lot of elements & steps here so if you get lost please ask questions in the comments and I'll try to address them as soon as possible. We go through adding muzzle flashes to layering blood splatters & blood bursts, to making a head grow out of its neck with the liquify tool.

The Big Head Effect Tutorial:    • Video

• For this tutorial, I use Adobe After Effects CC 2017. No plugins are required.

KEYS TO SUCCESS:

• Shoot a background plate and shoot this on a tripod.
• Use the liquify tool to smash the actor/actress' head down to a stump and have it regrow from there.
• Add flesh/meat to the head when it explodes.

Please leave a like if this helped you and if you have any questions or want to learn a certain effect please let me know in the comments section and I'll get to it to you ASAP.
