Qi Gong is a series of postures and or movement patterns designed to enhance Qi flow in specific meridians within the body. In this series, Dr. Daniel Hoover and his wife Veronika with SOHMA.org are demonstrating the Ba Duan Jin which is translated as The Eight Brocades or the Eight Pieces of the Silk Brocade. Doctors and Acupuncturists commonly prescribe specific Qi Gong exercises such as these to treat patterns of disease. This particular Qi Gong series is one of the most popular sets practiced worldwide and each exercise targets one of the eight extraordinary meridians in the body. It was designed by a general hundreds of years ago to help strengthen his warriors for battle. Welcome to Qi Gong for Beginners. This first episode is an introduction to Qi Gong concepts and its first two movement patterns “Lifting Heaven/Sky” and “Hunter Draws Bow to Hunt Eagle.” Lifting Heaven also known as “Hold up the Sky for Well Tuned San Jiao” specifically opens the Yang Qiao meridian. Hunter Draws Bow to Hunt Eagle specifically opens the Yin Qiao meridian. Each episode will build on the previous one.
