My wife and I prepared our son's 10th birthday gift so it would be waiting for him when he got home. We tried to downplay everything for the day because it was in the middle of a school week... no party, no surprises until the weekend.

I purchased the bike a week before his birthday but waited to pick it up from the dealership until after the kids left for school that day. My wife put the finishing touches on it, and then we waited for the school bus to arrive at 4:00 pm. He was shocked and excited, so we accomplished our mission!

My daughter was a little jealous, so we got her a Yamaha PW50 with training wheels about two weeks later. We had a blast riding around our neighborhood trails. This was 10 years ago already... it's incredible how time flies!
