I've been wanting to make a folding knife for quite some time now but the one hang up I had was the spring. I wasn't sure how or if I could make one for the knife I had in mind. After doing some research on the subject I decided it was best to try and experiment with some 1095 stock to see if I could get the temper just right. I was also curious as to how much of a variation there would be in the different temper colors of 1095 steel. So this is the experiment I came up with it is hardly scientific but the end results do give me some much needed confidence. From what I can tell the best color to try and get from a temper is a light blue shade on the steel. This color seemed to give the best results when it came to my 'test'. If you were like me and out there wondering about this same issue I hope you find this video. And I hope that it is helpful. Thanks for watching.
