2050. We’ve done it!

It’s been long and challenging, but we managed to significantly reduce our impact on the climate.

It took some time. Back in the late 2010’s, we were stretching what was possible. Steelmaking was at its thermodynamic limits.

Thankfully, our industry joined forces with government and invested in deploying breakthrough technologies.

As a result, we were able to drastically cut back on greenhouse gases. Between then and now, we’re emitting up to 80% less.

We scaled up technologies that reduce, recover and recycle materials. All kinds of industries, linked together in smarter ways than we could’ve ever imagined, with benefits for us all.

Carbon Direct Avoidance gave us the ability to use hydrogen and renewable electrical processes. Making high quality steel while avoiding CO2-emissions. Smart Carbon Usage put what little emissions remained to good use by making other products, such as useful chemicals.

We understood even back then that change takes time, and innovation. But most of all, it meant grasping breakthrough technologies and investing in them, even when facing the risk of failure.

Because we mastered this, Europe now spearheads low-carbon steelmaking.

Let’s forge the future. Today.
