Descriptive Notes

Jack C. "Pappy" Parsons was born in Tom's Creek, Virginia on August 20, 1915. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, and worked in a mine. He did not like mine work and quit to join the US Navy, eventually serving on the USS Oklahoma. Mr. Parsons discusses his experiences from his days on the ship. He was transferred to another ship, the USS Ontario (AT-13), before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor of December 7,1941, and he talks about his memories of being present in Pearl Harbor on that day. Mr. Parsons goes on to talk about his life during the rest of World War II and after.
