🏆 THE GOAL: In this video, you will learn the difference between a Payment Gateway and a Payment Processor. To summarize it quickly, the processor moves money, while the gateway approves transactions and to the untrained eye, it may seem like the two services are a single entity, however in reality they’re not.

Companies like Stripe perform both services, however there are companies that only provide payment gateway services, which are now considered the exception and not the rule. Typically most businesses that are going to sell you one service are going to sell you the other. Payment gateway services are fairly new and weren't needed until the first e-commerce transaction in 1992. They get you an approved or declined message fast and they look out for fraud. However the Payment Processor is much older and primarily moves money from the Payee’s account to the Merchant’s account who is accepting the money. They also ensure that the card issuer and card networks receive their fees (like Mastercard and Visa) from the merchant.
