Ramjets have always been the simplest form of jet propulsion, with no moving parts. Increasing speed to the near hypersonic regime, however, presents multiple challenges in ramjet design, from cooling to flame holding. Jay Blake of Velo3D has designed a very sophisticated demonstrator 3d printed engine that may pave the way to low cost high supersonic propulsion.
