Black History Month signs in ASL. Why do some sign "Black" vs. "black"? Just because you like the sign doesn't mean everyone gets to claim it. This is because it will be misused and misinterpreted, like many things that have been taken from the Black and Brown communities. There are some slight variations of opinions about the sign and its origin, but the meaning is the same. I primarily use the general sign but am in this sense privileged to use either.
