One of the best parts of owning an older front-wheel-drive car with an old-school handbrake is the ability to do 180-degree handbrake turns on loose surfaces like snow or gravel.

This is an important skill to have, but you need to approach this with a level head. Find a safe, legal place to learn. Fresh snow on a recently paved parking lot is a good place, but you want to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that the area is free of hazard (like potholes, raised manhole covers, concrete dividers, and anything else) that could ruin your day or someone else's day. Don't do this around parked cars. Don't do this on public roads. Don't do this with people standing around in random places. Don't do this somewhere you can get in (big) trouble for it.

If you want to learn from the best, check out this video on handbrake turns from Wyatt Knox at Team O'Neil:    • How to do Handbrake Turns

You might remember Wyatt from my AWD Challenger GT video last winter. He's an awesome driver and instructor.

If there is a cool police officer in your town, they might help you find a safe place to learn this driving technique. If they're extra cool, they might even share some tips. This is an important driving skill that is not taught in a common driving school.

Slambo (my 1999 Honda Civic HX) has been stuck in "limp mode" … I've been throwing parts at it when I can, to remedy the situation. I've elimimated almost everything. Knock wood it will be back to norm
