After students take my course, first I would like them to love econometrics, or data analysis and economics, because I think that this is really related to the heart of science, that what we can learn from data we observe. What kind of conclusions, what kind of inference can we make?

I teach both theoretical background as well as empirical application of econometric tools. A direct corollary of this assumption. Every class starts with a question, say, what's the effect of health insurance on health? They have to work with a problem set, which covers that particular data set we use to answer the question.

At the end of the class, I always ask, what was the most difficult topic of the day? And they answer that online and I look at those answers and review the topic that most people found most difficult again in the next class.
