Hard to believe, but it's been almost a decade since Mazda first told us it would bring a diesel-powered CX-5 crossover to the United States. But for 2019, the Skyactiv-D engine finally arrives on our shores, promising improvements in fuel economy and driving range.

However, Mazda is only offering the diesel engine on its most expensive CX-5 Signature trim, as part of the brand's move to more premium positioning. Is this oil-burner worth the extra coin?
