Can Jeep stuff a V8 Hemi into a Wrangler? I can answer that.

For those looking for more off-road prowess, and perhaps to outdo the guy next to you in his new Ford Bronco, Jeep’s dangling a 450-horse-powered concept carrot in everyone’s face. The Wrangler 392 Concept.

That 392 refers to the engine, that’s a 6.4-liter 392 cubic inch engine. The last of these iconic bad boys to see those kinds of numbers was the CJ in 1981.

Don’t worry about your capability, the 392 comes with all the bells and whistles that the Rubicon does, and then some.
What it does do differently is in the torques. As in all 450 lbs of them per feet. The Wrangler Diesel blew me away with its 442 lb-ft, so you’re lucky my eyeballs are still in my head.
That translates to so much power.

The sound of this thing is absolutely incredible. There’s a dual exhaust, a button you can push to make it quieter, just in case you don’t want to attract the police.

The 392 boasts a more robust 8-speed automatic transmission for all that power as well as upgraded engine mounts and a modified frame for the extra weight.

Jeep claims this V8 catapults your off-roading juggernaut from 0-60 in less than five seconds. Mind you that’s on straight smooth pavement, not at Jackhammer or Chocolate Thunder in the King of the Hammers Everyman Challenge.

This Wrangler took a shopping trip to the Mopar store and came out with a
2-inch lift and 37-inch tires on 17-inch bead-lock wheels so you’ve got more ground clearance (13.25-inches).

Other custom features include half doors, cool paint with bronze accents everywhere, steel bumpers, a Warn winch, and a hot looking red leather interior with gold stitching, that’s sorta 1981 cool, right?

Okay, so, yes, this is just a concept, but Jeep’s shown they can do it. Which begs the question, will they? They’ve got a plug-in hybrid coming, so how many more power trains can they offer? I can’t answer that, but I can say this one should definitely make the lineup.
