No trace left behind. That’s Edward Jones’ vision as they evaluate their environmental impact and strive to be a more socially conscious investment firm.

A perennial contender on the Fortune list of best companies to work for, Edward Jones has already made huge advances to create a work environment that contributes to employees’ mental and physical well-being. Through “green” building principles and architectural design, they developed activity-based workstations to eliminate silos between divisions, buildings, and campuses.

Spearheading this initiative is Jodi Foltz Gay, Principal, Home-office Facilities at Edward Jones. She led the charge to build new facilities (and repurpose existing facilities) with a focus on environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility. In this clip, she talks about some of the firm’s initiatives to reduce energy and water usage, increase composting and recycling activities, and eliminate styrofoam from cafeterias and facilities. And using her background in architecture, she made the push to use durable, responsibly procured materials in the construction of new buildings.

Implementing these changes was no small charge, but the efficiency improvements have actually reduced the firms operating expenses by more than 10%.
