Dario Herrera has been an Elysian Valley resident his entire life. He has watched housing prices pushing many of his family members out of the Northeast Los Angeles neighborhood along the L.A. River. Herrera sees the neighborhood through the lens of newcomers who are rebranding the area as "Frogtown," and through the eyes of longtime Elysian Valley residents struggling with real estate speculation and limited food access. Clockshop's Julia Meltzer attributes the changes she has seen since the arts organization arrived in 2002 to a combination of anticipated green space along the L.A. River, the 2008 financial crisis and the pandemic.
