Winter is over for me, and temps are getting into the mid 80's for a few days. My brassicas are probably going to flower and go to seed, so I harvested a bunch of leaves before they go bitter and cleaned up the bananas and tropical plants from the cold damage this year. Everything pulled through fine and I'm starting to realize I have a microclimate where I can grow things for zone 11 with minimal effort. Pineapples, pigeon peas, bananas, papaya, guava, passion fruit, soursop, starfruit, avocado, dragon fruit, coffee, miracle berry, Barbados cherry (acerola), and even plants like eggplant and peppers seem to be perennial here with little or no effort. I also get to have subtropical and temperate fruits like figs, grapefruits, oranges, lemons, loquats, mulberries, olives, peaches, plums, apples, and blueberries. I now have a condo mango, I plan to put near the house, and I'll see how tamarillos hold up, I finally got dwarf ones to sprout.
