One of the greatest things about living in Dublin is without a doubt the Phoenix Park. This month I'm offering you a glimpse of a beautiful day spent walking among it's many forested areas and wide open grassy plains.

Officially the largest park in Europe, Phoenix Park is 1,752 acres. In fact, it's bigger than all the parks in London put together and twice the size of Central Park in New York. Within Phoenix park, The Phoneo for short, sits Dublin Zoo and just 100 yards from the Zoo enterance surrounded by tall Oak trees is a little known cultural oddity hidden in an impressive natural amphitheatre... a resonating bandstand. The ceiling of the bandstand is made of several large circular steel rings, which means any sound made under them reverberates within the dome of the ceiling. It's quite an amazing thing dating back to the Victorian era!!

So last Saturday I found myself at Donal Dineen's Backstory because Aideen wanted to dance. As I don't dance I found myself outside the dancehall, standing under a starry sky on a balcony overlooking the liffey recounting my knowledge of this magical bandstand to a group of musician friends of mine. Gareth Quinn Redmond, the ambient artist and fiddle player, the talented Laura Quirke from Lemoncello and their very cool and oh so very sound friend from California by the name of Jonny Pickett. I also mentioned I filmed Niamh Bury there two years ago and would gladly film another artist there as it had been so long, and because the "The sound from the bandstand is just so amazing" I told them with glee. "Myles, I tell you what else is amazing" says Gareth... "Jonny here has some amazing tunes, you should film HIM there".

Well, the rest is history.

I thank all of these beauts for making my month and giving this video their energies, especially Jonny. As ever I also have you to thank, my patron, for making this video possible! I hope you enjoy this musical escape to the Phoneo and see you here again in four weeks for another wee adventure!

Big love

Myles
