Three police officers were killed on April 27 in an ambush in Chile, prompting President Gabriel Boric to declare three days of national mourning.

The officers were patrolling the Canete commune, in the Biobio region, when an armed group opened fire and set the van alight. Firefighters found the van with the bodies inside, local media reported.

The Chilean police, Carabineros de Chile, informed X they were investigating the case to find those responsible for the assault.

The ambush took place in a conflict zone that has suffered from incendiary attacks against farmers, Mapuche residents and officers in recent years, according to local media.
