I don't know about Griswold or other cast iron skillets. All I know is that ya'll afraid to use metal spatula on it. And maybe for good reason. I don't know.

All I know is Lodge Cast Iron. And I have been using metal utensils on all my Lodge cast iron cookware for decades. Lodge's rough surface holds on to seasoning like no other. And it just gets better and naturally smoother over time. The cookware stands up to metal utensils.

I've also been cleaning my Lodge cast iron with dish soap every time. Do your hard scrubbing with just hot water. Then give it another round with some Dawn and rinse well. Again, it can take it. That seasoning is polymerized and bonded to the iron. A quick wash with dish soap won't hurt it at all. Just keep it oiled and use it frequently. It ain't no big deal!
