There is widespread consensus that the world needs to move away from dirty fuel sources which cause pollution and pump out gases that are contributing to the climate crisis.

Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas are not just used to generate electricity, but they bring in revenue for countries that have big reserves. Keeping them in the ground means that States have to find other ways to develop your economy.

The small island developing State of Dominica may have found a solution underground: studies have shown that the country could cover all of its electricity needs, and even sell electricity abroad, by developing geothermal energy. It would be 100 per cent clean, cheap and practically limitless.

Conor Lennon from UN News meets Vince Henderson, Dominica’s Minister for Economic Development and Sustainable Energy, and Fred John, CEO of the Dominica Geothermal Development Company to find out if the country really is on its way to a clean energy future.
