A short video outlining how to change the manual transmission fluid in your 10th generation Honda Civic. This covers model years 2016-2021 but the procedure fundamentally is similar to other years. Very simple as there is one fill plug and one drain plug!

The vehicle featured here is a 2017 Civic Type R with just under 40, 000 km and I opted to change the manual gearbox oil out with something that works better than the stock Honda MTF fluid. GM Synchromesh fluid that is friction modified works WONDERFULY in Honda manual gearboxes and is SAFE for yellow metals (ie brass sychros) so there is no fear that the oil will ruin the synchro. The GM Sychromesh oil MUST be the friction-modified version in order to have the best efficacy. The fluid is rated GL-4 so to re-iterate - it is SAFE for brass synchros.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should GL-5 oils ever be used in the gearbox as GL-5 oils WILL corrode anything that contains yellow metals in it.

Tools needed are 10mm + 7/32nd sockets, long 3/8" socket extension, 3/8" drive ratchet, JIS screwdriver or Philips #1, flatflade screwdriver, 2 crush washers and 2.3 quarts (2.2 liters) of GM synchromesh FM (or Honda MTF) fluid.
