We were kindly sent the Topdon TC001 Thermal Imaging Camera and they asked us to test it and tell them what we though of it. Days after fitting our sheep's wool insulation in the bedrooms, what better time to see how well we had done, the timing was perfect.

To start with, the Topdon TC001 thermal imaging camera meant we were able to see just how much residual heat comes from a previously lit open fire, where the flue travels in the walls and how much heat is stored in the fireplace and the back of it too, within the stone walls, the following day. We were also able to test what difference the sheep's wool insulation made to our ceiling spaces, cold spots on walls with bare stone and no lime and then compare this to a wall with lime plaster. The Topdon TC001 showed us how well our old, single glazed windows were insulated and what difference having curtains makes. It highlighted the damp wall in the kitchen as well as checking for any leaks in the newly plumbed bathroom. Moving outside, the Topdon TC001 showed us how little heat loss we have around our windows from the outside as well as showing how much heat you lose via the glass, that is scary. Also, the ability to see wildlife (the cats) is clear when they glow like the Ready Brek kid.

Considering this is the first time we have been in contact with a thermal imaging camera, it really was as simple as 123. From opening the well packaged and well presented Topdon box, we were able to have a visible, live image of hot, cold, damp and wet in a matter of minutes.
