Russian cars are maybe not the best cars in the world, but they definitely have their fans. Especially LADA which was very popular in the 80s and early 90s (especially Lada Niva), but nowadays can rarely be seen outside of Russia. Let's remember the history of this brand and try to understand why it lost all of its popularity?

The Lada is one of the brightest symbols of Soviet Russia. One of the most reliable cars in the world. Or one of the worst cars ever made. Depends on who you ask. It was created by a company called AvtoVAZ in a beautifull city of Togliatti (and no, it is not in Italy, it's in Russia!) Its heyday, if it had one, was in the 1970s, but a significant number of cars remain on the roads today, and hold a special place in the hearts and minds of many Russians. The keys to it's success were competitive price, reliability, simple DIY-friendly mechanics, and simple functionality. The car was built under license in several other countries in Europe, Africa and South America. Competitive pricing and ease of maintenance have made the Ladas a popular vehicle for police, cabs, and a variety of civil service and civil defense vehicles in many parts of the world. There have been ups and downs in the history of Avtovaz, but the current fall, unfortunately, has dragged on. The people's car of the Soviet Union was never able to recover from its downfall, and each year the company became more and more unprofitable. It was sold to the French from Renault in 2009, and 12 years later they announced the merging of the LADA and Dacia brands. Which means the end of the era of real Russian cars under the LADA name.

Hey there. Somehow you found my video and decided to watch it. So let me introduce myself. I'm Sergei and I'm from Russia. My channel is about my native country. I want to tell English-speaking viewers about the real Russia, about its past and present. Unfortunately, you can find a lot of propaganda about Russia on the Internet, both from the Russian media and from the Western ones. I want to tell you about Russia, as it really is, the country in which I was born, grew up, and lived all my life.
