I was about to purchase a SailRite sewing machine, but just for fun I decided to try out a manual leather shoe patcher machine. I wish they were made in USA, but they aren't. They range in price from $95 to $180 on Ebay and Amazon. I have been told that I am lucky that mine functioned out of the box. Many people struggle with their initial attempts. I knew almost immediately that this would do everything that I wanted in a straight stitch sewing machine, so I hit the ground running and added my servomotor to it. A servomotor has incredible torque, even at its lowest speed, so there is no hesitation punching through several layers of thick material. They use common household needles but there is an easy modification that lets them take larger industrial needles. I have not yet made this modification since household needles handle my thread requirements. There is a China Leather Shoe Patcher Facebook page with a wealth of knowledge available for these machines. So yes, my total investment in the manual patcher, shipping, and the servo upgrade was $225. I designed my own gears in Solidworks and 3D printed them. I am happy to sell the 3D printed parts as a kit. https://www.ebay.com/itm/284626990270 If you don't see the listing, I am presently sold out and working on new kits. I do not share STL files.
