Here's how I built a full sized shield into a wrist watch, similar to the one from the Percy Jackson Series. The watch consists of wound metal strips (tape measures) that spring out and act as the spokes of the shield. A thin webbing is tucked inside as well. When a button is pressed, the top pops off and the shield is deployed, just like in the books. However because the shield is super thin, it's not that strong. But I did also make a metal folding shield circle thats a bit more durable.
