We booked our trip through Klook.com and cost us around AUD $105 per person in a group of two. Solo travelling would cost more. However, more the people, cheaper the price.

We were picked up from out hotel in Ubud at 03:00 AM and then driven to the foot of the mountain which was around 85 KMS and took 1 hour 15 minutes. Our friendly driver Putu dropped us to the jeep pick up point and from there, we were taken to a height of around 1700 metres by Jeep.

We had to trek for 500 - 700 metres which was quite steep and may be difficult, if you are not used to hiking. Our guide and the Balinese people are quite friendly and will be happy to assist. We had a lady who sold packaged food and drinks at the top and she guided my partner throughout the climb. There is no expectation of any money but I believe they would happy if we buy products from them. We ended buying 4-5 items and it cost us AUD $20 (INDR 200,000). This would definitely be expensive than buying it from a shop as they are working hard to trek up and down.

Once at the top, the sunrise was unbelievable and we were also provided breakfast by our guide. We had boiled eggs, banana sandwich, some chocolate bar & hot chocolate. After enjoying the sunrise for 30 minutes, we made our way down. This was quite difficult and we slipped multiple times. My partner had a fall and scraped her ankle. The guide was quite helpful and held her hand throughout or else the outcome would have been much different.

We were handed over to the Jeep driver again by 07:30 AM who then took us to Mt Lava, where we could see the black lava formation and it was spectacular. This drive took around 40 minutes one way. We were then taken to our first meeting point, where Putu was waiting for us and he drove us back to our hotel by 11:00 AM.

As we went during the off peak season, the trekking was not over crowded and we got a good view point at the top. Tipping is not mandatory in Bali I guess but we tipped both the drivers and the guide AUD $10 each (INDR 100,000), which made them quite happy. Overall, a unique experience and totally worth it for the price and experience we had.
